Trumpeter's Waltz

Written for the 2022 Austin Trumpet Camp, Trumpeter’s Waltz was originally intended to be one movement of a larger piece, but currently lives its life as a stand alone work. I wanted to write something that wasn’t really all that… trumpety. At the time of writing this piece, I had some waltz melodies floating around in my head (one of which later became the wind ensemble piece Wayfarer’s Waltz) and thought that could be a fun little deviation from all the fanfares and double tonguing. The general musical inspiration for the piece comes from the music of Joe Hisaishi, specifically the soundtrack to the Hayao Miyazaki film Howl’s Moving Castle.
